The lustrous black finish on which the design has been hand-etched is produced through the application of seven layers of lacquer followed by a two-month drying process, achieving a rich shine. Northern Thai lacquerware is well known to interior designers worldwide, and is acclaimed for some of the globe's finest craftsmanship techniques. Lacquerware is created by applying the black resin of the "Lak" tree onto smoothly carved wood to give it a fine finish. The bottom of the holder slides out for easy tissue replacement.
